The Nyungwe Forest is one of the oldest forests with most of the indigenous tree species like Mahogany trees and treetop canopy.
Nyungwe forest is approximately 970 Kms square kilometres and it’s located in the western part of Rwanda.
This magnificent beauty is blessed with a number of wildlife species but most known for man’s closest relative the chimpanzees.
The rainforest boasts the scenic beauty it gets from River Congo in the west and River Nile the longest in Africa in the eastern part.

How to get there/ reach Nyungwe Forest
By Road
This is the most common type of transportation to the park and it will take you approximately 2-3 hrs from Kigali city. We recommend you use a 4×4 Vehicle and this ranges from Us dollars $200-$350 per day minus drivers’ allowance.
By Air
You can also access the park by air by using two operating companies that is Rwandair and Akagera Aviation.
Best time to Visit Nyungwe Forest
We recommend the dry months of December- January and June-August where there is a high volume of wildlife in the reserve. Although you can visit in other months when it’s a wet season April and November with low numbers of wildlife. But be rest assured that gorilla trekking is open throughout the year.
